sonett - horrendous water leak from rear window seal

I have never really tried to go through all the rubber seals and make sure none of them leak. That said, I have driven in the rain and have seen some water dripping in from the sun roof. Well the other day I wanted to wash the car but all the do-it-yourself bays were full so I opted to go through the automatic wash instead.

This was an enlightening experience. I knew was going to get wet, but I didn't realize how wet. So the sun roof does let water past when hit with a high pressure jet, but it is not too bad and it comes in between the glass and the seal, not between the seal and the fiberglass roof, so its not damanging anything.

The left and right windows leak plenty also. I would call them moderate leakers. The rubber seal is worn out and doesn't actually press up against the top of the window.

But the worst offender, the king of leaks, is the back window. I might as well have had my back window open. It was like having a garden hose on. The water comes in at he corners and the center. I didn't realize how much the rubber seal had shrunk and therefore pulled away from the body leaving a huge gap through which a waterfall runs. It was truely astonishing. Thank goodness the trunk floor design includes drains, or maybe rust holes, either way the water escapes.

I certainly need to replace the door seals and rear window seal soon. The front window is water tight thankfully.
